Dr. Stewart graduated from the University of Michigan in 1998. He then moved to Washington, DC and attended Georgetown University where he earned his M.D. and his M.B.A. Prior to graduating from medical school, Dr. Stewart was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. He completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago. During residency, Dr. Stewart was involved in numerous sports medicine activities including coverage of the Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament, the NBA pre-draft camp, and the Joffrey Ballet. In addition, he performed athletic physicals and football game physician coverage for the Chicago Public Schools. Following residency, Dr. Stewart completed a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. As part of his fellowship training, Dr. Stewart received specialized training in the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of athletic injuries. The surgical treatment had an emphasis on arthroscopic surgery and other minimally invasive techniques. In addition to the extra surgical training in fellowship, Dr. Stewart assisted with team and game coverage for the Houston Astros Major League Baseball team. He also accompanied the team to Florida for spring training. In addition to the Astros, Dr. Stewart assisted with team and game coverage for the Houston Texans NFL football team, the Houston Dynamo Major League Soccer team, the University of Houston athletic teams, and several Houston area high school football teams.
Dr. Stewart has studied abroad in both Spain and Mexico, and speaks both conversational and medical Spanish.
Dr. Stewart is a native of Grand Rapids and is excited to return to West Michigan.
