Anne M. McKay, D.N.P., M.S.N., ANP-BC

As a doctorally-prepared nurse practitioner, Anne has a passion for preventing fractures in vulnerable patients. Her clinical background includes caring for patients in college health, primary care, and women’s health settings. In 2009, Anne assisted in the development of an osteoporosis program for a major hospital system. In 2011, with the support of Shoreline Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Bruce Stewart, she returned to Holland to develop a nurse-managed bone health program for a local hospital. These experiences, along with over a decade of clinical experience in diagnosing and managing patients with osteoporosis, have fueled her desire to prevent initial and second fractures in at-risk patients. Anne joined Shoreline Orthopaedic with the goal of averting the financial and human costs that result from osteoporosis-related fractures.

Anne is also an educator, having served as an assistant professor in Grand Valley State University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice nurse practitioner program for five years, during which time she received the university's award for excellence in teaching. She continues to teach as an adjunct professor in this program. Education is a key component in the care Anne provides for her patients, which includes helping them understand their disease process and empowering them to take steps toward better bone health. She believes strongly in getting the message out that osteoporosis is a treatable disease and fractures are preventable. Anne speaks frequently to medical/nursing and community-based audiences about bone health and has presented at local, state, and national levels.

Anne and her husband have three young adult children. In her free time, she loves to travel, camp, cycle on the Midwest’s many “rails to trails” bike trails, and spend time at Lake Michigan, no matter what the season or weather.
