My Comeback Story: Lisa M.

Lisa
Welcome to Holland

My husband and I moved to Holland in September 2023. We were thrilled to be up here and enjoying all that the area has to offer. The day after Thanksgiving, on a beautiful, sunny, snow and ice-free day, I went for a walk with my two golden retrievers along the boardwalk out near Lake Michigan. Out of the blue, it went from a great day to tripping up and over the top of my retrievers and landing all my body weight on the very top of my right arm. I heard the break and knew I was in trouble. After going to the ER and having a wonderful experience of care there, I was quickly referred to Dr. Cheek at Shoreline Orthopaedics. I was told that I was gonna have to have a complicated surgery with a metal plate and 5 screws. I would have a long recovery, and they expected that I would have a limited range of motion. The surgery went well, my recovery went well, and I started my rehab with Troy across the hall at Shoreline. What an amazing place we have here in Holland to take care of its community! With a lot of hard work, rehabbing, instruction, and encouragement from Troy and the rest of the Rehab team and Dr. Cheek and his staff, I’m happy to say that here in March 2026 I have 98% range of motion. My shoulder speaks to me every once in a while when the weather changes but overall, I’m able to do everything I was able to do before. Except for maybe water skiing… perhaps that should be off my list! Thank you to Holland Hospital, Shoreline Orthopaedics and all of the surrounding healthcare providers. I’m really glad we moved here!
