About Dr. Kelsheimer

As an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and microsurgery, Dr. Alexander Kelsheimer provides comprehensive upper extremity care that includes fracture management, nerve and tendon injuries, sports injuries, trauma, and arthritic conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He performs a variety of procedures, including minimally invasive arthroscopic and endoscopic procedures as well as upper extremity total joint replacements. Dr. Kelsheimer’s philosophy is to take a personalized approach with patients, educating them about their condition and using shared decision-making to give them honest, straightforward treatment options. He focuses on conservative treatment and surgical treatment when indicated.

Dr. Kelsheimer received his Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training and biology at Clarke University, where he graduated as valedictorian, participated on the men’s volleyball team, and won many scholar-athlete honors.

He earned his medical degree at Des Moines University, graduating with multiple honors, including induction into the national osteopathic academic honor society Sigma Sigma Phi and the Gold Humanism Honor Societies. Dr. Kelsheimer’s orthopaedic surgery residency at St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital was followed by an additional year of fellowship training at the prestigious Florida Orthopaedic Institute at Tampa General Hospital, where his training focused on hand and upper extremity orthopaedic surgery and microsurgery. He started his practice at Orthopedic Specialists and St. Luke’s Hospital, where he spent three years providing comprehensive hand and upper extremity orthopaedic care, including microsurgery, to residents of the greater St. Louis area. Dr. Kelsheimer is also a regular presenter and faculty member at national and regional conferences.
