Tyler J. Spiering, M.D.

Hip & Knee Reconstruction

As an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee surgery, Dr. Spiering is fellowship-trained in total joint replacements. In addition to general orthopaedic surgery and injury treatment, his extensive training has provided experience in both anterior and posterior approaches for total hip replacement, partial and total knee replacements, knee arthroscopy for meniscus and cartilage disorders, rapid recovery protocols, as well as complex primary and revision surgery including pelvic reconstruction and periprosthetic infections. Dr. Spiering’s treatment philosophy is focused on patient-centered care that begins with an evaluation of each patient's unique situation and goals. Following a discussion of all nonoperative and operative management options, a comprehensive treatment plan is formulated to relieve pain, restore function, and allow the patient to return to the activities they enjoy most.

Dr. Spiering received his undergraduate degree from Calvin College and graduated from Wayne State University for medical school with honors and Alpha Omega Alpha distinction. He completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Michigan where he trained alongside some of the leading surgeons in all aspects of orthopaedics. Following residency, he attended a fellowship in total joint replacement and complex adult reconstruction at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA.

A West Michigan native, Dr. Spiering grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After living outside the area for 10 years, he returned to lay down roots with his wife and two children, and become a part of Shoreline Orthopaedics.
